In this article, we’ve picked out 10 of the best, and our favourite, Christmas tree toppers. So, there is something for everyone and we can assure you that you will find the perfect tree topper for your home.
Christmas Tree Toppers
Tree toppers can take any form. You could stay traditional with an angel, fairy or star, an unusual statement, or even a beautiful bow. Or, even no tree topper at all.
We love to put our tree topper on at the very end, once the tree is fully decorated, and as a way to mark the start of the Christmas celebrations in our home. Whilst dancing around to Christmas songs, specifically rockin’ around the Christmas tree, at the same time.
In many homes, placing the tree topper on the crown of the tree is seen as an honour, and lucky. Sometimes, the father of the family or oldest member of the family will have this honour, and children who have left home will return for this family tradition.
It is such a wonderful tradition in many homes across the globe. But, how do you find the right tree topper for you and your home?
Well, there’s no right or wrong way. As with anything during the festive season. It’s about finding something that you love, that fits within your Christmas traditions and complements your festive home decor.

What is the History of the Christmas Tree Topper?
An angel placed at the ‘crown’ of the tree dates back to the Victorian era, in the mid-1800s, when Queen Victoria was in reign. Queen Victoria and her husband, Prince Albert, brought the first Christmas tree to Windsor Castle. This was a huge influence.
This tree was decorated with tinsel, ornaments, candles and angels. Christmas trees then became popularised all over the country as British citizens followed suit. And, what became fashionable in Britain was followed by the high society of the East Coast in the USA.
A photograph was published in the London News of the Royal Family standing around their Christmas tree with a Christmas angel as the tree topper. This publication alone caused the angel to become the most common Christmas tree topper.
Following this, in the 1870s, and with the growing power of the British Empire around the world, the Union Jack soon became the most popular Christmas tree topper.
What do Tree Toppers Symbolise?
There are many options for a tree topper however the most common and traditional toppers are an angel or fairy, or a star.
But what do these figures represent?
Angels represent the Christmas angel, Gabriel, from The Story of the Birth of Jesus in the Bible, and the significance of the angels which appeared in the sky-high above Bethlehem to excitedly announce the birth of Jesus Christ.
A star represents the bright star of Bethlehem which appeared in the sky to guide the Three Wise Men, again from the Story of the Birth of Jesus to Jesus’ birthplace.
However, nowadays, you can find pretty much any festive form as a tree topper. From ribbon and bows to cupcakes, to Santa Claus, to family photographs. Every home has a different approach to their tree topper, and that’s what makes them so special.
There may not be any tradition in these ‘new’ toppers, but this is where new traditions have made their way into family homes. And people add their own personality to the Christmas trees and festive decor.
And, that is what Christmas is all about. Mixing older traditions, with your own, newer traditions to create the perfect Christmas.
So, let’s take a look at the list of our best Christmas tree toppers.
